Microsoft’s site-owner platform for monitoring Bing search presence and supported search and AI performance reports.
Bing Webmaster Tools is Microsoft’s site-owner platform for examining a website’s presence in Bing. It provides information and diagnostics related to search performance, crawling and indexing. It complements Google Search Console rather than reproducing exactly the same data from another source.
The platform also includes AI Performance reporting for supported experiences. Microsoft describes coverage across Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and select partner integrations. That scope should not be expanded into a claim that the tool monitors or controls every OpenAI product or every AI-generated answer.
Keep the purpose of each report clear. A citation count describes a source appearance within the supported reporting scope; it is not automatically a click, a recommendation or a sale. Likewise, submitting site information does not guarantee indexing or a particular position.
Takeaway: Use Bing’s own reports to investigate Bing-related visibility and documented AI reporting. Read the metric definitions before comparing them with a different platform’s numbers.
Example
A publisher finds that one guide is cited in supported AI answers while another receives conventional search clicks. Those observations describe different interactions. Combining them into a single unlabeled traffic total would hide what was actually measured.
What to check
Confirm the verified site, report date range and feature scope. Separate observed reporting from assumptions about partner distribution. Review current documentation when a new report or preview feature appears rather than treating its labels as universal industry metrics.
