Programmatic access to Search Console performance data through authorized queries, subject to reporting and row limits.

The Search Analytics API provides programmatic access to Search Console performance data for authorized properties. A request specifies dates, dimensions and filters, and the response returns grouped metrics. It supports repeatable reporting and storage of retrieved data outside the interface.

Access is not an unrestricted dump of every search observation. The query method has a row limit, currently up to 25,000 per request with a default of 1,000, and supports pagination through a starting-row offset. Google also states that internal limits mean it does not guarantee every row, but rather top rows.

Saving results regularly can create your own archive of what was collected. It does not recover data that is already unavailable or make omitted queries appear. Preserve request settings with the export so later analysis knows how the rows were grouped and what limitations apply.

Takeaway: Use the API when repeatable extraction serves a clear reporting need. Check completeness assumptions before presenting an automated file as the full search dataset.

Example

A business stores monthly page-and-country performance extracts using the same filters. It can compare those saved files later, but it should not describe them as an exhaustive visitor log or assume a missing query never occurred.

What to check

Document authorization scope, dates, dimensions, pagination and data state. Monitor failed or partial runs. For broader ongoing performance exports, evaluate Search Console’s separate bulk export rather than assuming pagination removes all API limits.
